The article defines the subject and objectives of a forensic examination of digital document images, determines its place within the system of forensic examination types and categories. The author's classification of digital document images as objects of expert study is presented. Based on an analysis of forensic examination types where digital images may serve as objects, the article highlights the differences in research tasks and methods between a forensic examination of digital document images and other forensic examinations (computer, photo and video, technical forensic examination of documents).
