The article substantiates the importance of studying the transformation of interaction between the state and society in the context of the formation of Russian statehood. Individual historical examples of forms of interaction between the state and citizens are given and the conditions for organizing public-government dialogue at different stages of the country's history from Ancient Rus' to the present day are listed. The main evolutionary changes occurring in the sphere of interaction between society and the state are determined. A conclusion is formulated about the long-term evolution of forms and models of public-government interaction, their transformation from a medieval meeting to modern digital communication on platforms. A conclusion is made about the need for a detailed study of the experience of the USSR in the field of educating civic activity, responsible social position, motivating citizens to participate in state affairs and forming a culture of interaction between citizens and the state, which is necessary for the implementation of individual Soviet practices in modern Russia.
