In the optics of neo-evolutionism, the state was formed as a result of a natural evolutionary process. However, the usual theoretical scheme of evolutionism is complemented here by a more subtle differentiation of the stages of ancient society development, as well as assumption about the existence of alternative paths of evolutionary development and the evolutionary analogues of the early state – super-complex chiefdom and heterarchy.
