The article analyzes the powers of local governments that they exercise in order to ensure food security. Specific powers are determined in the framework of solving issues of local importance, the effectiveness of their implementation in various municipalities is analyzed. The features of strategic planning of municipalities in the field of food security are also revealed. It is concluded about objectively developing various strategic tasks facing different types of municipalities. The practice of transferring state powers to support agriculture to local governments is being investigated, an author's position is being formed regarding the effectiveness and expediency of this process.
