The article reviews the issues related to assuring migration security of the country, including the struggle against illegal migration in Russia. The author studies the approaches to understanding the concepts of national security, migration security, illegal migration. The publication analyzes the relation between illegal migration and national security of the country; the existing threats to social stability and national security of the Russian Federation, gives the respective examples. Relevant amendments to the Russian migration laws are examined. The author concludes that it is necessary to strengthen measures of combating illegal migration through improvement of legal mechanisms aimed at prevention and suppression of illegal migration.
