The article is devoted to the analysis of international experience in the legal regulation of marine spatial planning (MSP). The subject of this research is the systems of approaches to MSP in the European Union, the United States of America, the People's Republic of China, as well as the practice of other states and international organizations. The purpose of the work is to identify the universal and specific features of foreign models of MSP and to assess their applicability for the Russian Federation. In conclusion, the priority of adopting a special federal law on MSP is substantiated.
