The scientific school of the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation focuses on new categories, including financial and legal ones, and the development of concepts and theories based on them. One such category is the legal space and its sectoral dimension - the financial and legal space.
The article is devoted to the definition of the significance of P.A. Sorokin's teaching on the legal space for the formation of the concept of financial and legal space.
It is proved that the scientific value of the theory of social space for the study of the concept of "financial and legal space" and the formation of the concept of financial and legal space is predetermined by the logic according to which the financial and legal space is a subject section of the legal space, and the legal space is a part of the social space.
The interrelation between the social, legal and financial-legal space is revealed; the importance of the theory of social stratification and social mobility developed by P.A. Sorokin for understanding the structure of the financial-legal space is shown.
The conclusion is formulated that the doctrine of P.A. Sorokin's concept of social space is of high methodological importance for the formation of the concept of financial and legal space, providing new analytical tools in the form of categories "order of social positions", "system of social coordinates", "social elevator" and allowing us to consider the financial and legal space not as a system of financial and legal norms, reduced to a description of the "map" of the financial and legal space, indicating which financial and legal norms are in force and in which territory, but as part of a broader social reality.
