The article examines the contract for the protection of merchant ships in the law of the Russian Empire. The evolution of legal regulation of this contract met the requirements of the time. In connection with the complication of public relations, an increase in the volume of the regulatory framework designed to regulate contractual legal relations is traced. Over time, the property side of the relations from the contract for the protection of merchant ships was subjected to more detailed regulation.
