This article is devoted to the international legal framework governing the application of advanced information technologies and the resulting process of digitalization aimed at preserving and ensuring the rational use of data relating to cultural objects and cultural heritage. It analyzes the relevant international legal instruments adopted in this field of international relations. The article outlines the main objectives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in the context of digitalization, as well as the use of advanced digital technologies in the cultural sphere. It identifies the
most significant initiatives undertaken by this international organization to achieve these objectives. The author also draws attention to what he considers to be UNESCO's prospective tasks related to the reservation of humanity's digital cultural heritage. Conclusions corresponding to the subject matter of the article are formulated
