The article examines the problem of legal qualification of prize money and donations received by an esports athlete during marriage. Particular attention is paid to the legal nature of such payments: prize money is analyzed as remuneration for participation in a competition and achievement of a result, while donations are considered as voluntary transfers connected either with the recipient’s personality or with professional and media activity. The article argues that the absence of special legal rules on esports athletes’ income complicates the determination of the legal regime of such funds. It is concluded that prize money and donations should be assessed functionally, taking into account the grounds for their receipt, connection with professional activity, the period of receipt and the purpose of the payment.
