Germline Genome Editing: Law, Ethics, and Responsibility to Future Generations

Annotation

The article distinguishes between the concepts of somatic editing and germline editing, as well as the purposes of such interventions – therapy and enhancement. An analysis of international and national legal regulation of germline genome editing has been conducted. Real scientific breakthroughs and the legal consequences faced by the scientists who achieved them are examined. The methodological basis of the work includes general scientific methods of analysis and synthesis, as well as the comparative legal method, which was used to compare regulatory models in Russia, the United States, and China.
