The principle of judicial independence is the cornerstone of a rule-of-law State and the foundation of fair justice. One of the key guarantees for the implementation of this principle is the financial support of judges, which supports their economic autonomy and protects them from external pressure. The authors of the article consider various aspects of determining the size, structure and procedure of payment of salaries and other financial guarantees provided to judges. Special attention is paid to the issues of ensuring the independence of the judiciary in the context of the judicial remuneration system, potential risks of corruption and mechanisms for minimizing them are analyzed. The effectiveness of the current system in terms of attracting and retaining highly qualified personnel in the judicial system of the Russian Federation is discussed. Based on the analysis of legal norms, conclusions are drawn about the need to improve the mechanisms for financing judges and create a single legal instrument regulating the social protection of representatives of the judicial branch of government.
