The research allows to examine existing legal norms regulating the activity of Italian trade unions which possess significant historical experience in advocating for and defending workers’ rights. It can be used in the educational process of teaching foreign countries’ constitutional and labour law. Research findings. The study of trade union activity in Italy holds considerable interests as modern Russia, despite the fact that defending national workers’ rights is in high demand, witnesses the ousting of trade unions from big-time politics. In this regard it is important to consider making appropriate amendments to the Federal Law of January 12, 1996 № 10-ФЗ “On Trade Unions, Their Rights and Guarantees for Activity” which is currently in force as well as to the articles of the Labour Code of the Russian Federation devoted to the trade union movement with the Italian legal framework in mind.
