This article examines the pressing issue of compensating for damages caused by remote theft in the context of the digital transformation of society. It notes the increasing number of such crimes and the significant amount of damage caused. It analyzes the legal framework for compensating damages. It identifies existing limitations in the activities of preliminary investigation bodies related to the failure to return stolen funds. A new criminal procedural mechanism is proposed as a solution. Positive examples from the investigative units of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Rostov Region are cited, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
