Annotation
This study examines the history of contractual inheritance in Germany. It examines the inheritance customs of ancient Germans, analyzes medieval German legislation, and the contributions of 19th-century legal scholars. Their works formed the basis for the development of the inheritance contract institute, which was subsequently codified in the German Civil Code and became widespread beyond Germany.
