The article analyzes the legal content and relationship between the concepts of "land degradation" and "desertification," as well as the legal measures to prevent these negative processes. Land degradation and desertification are not only global environmental issues, but also regional problems that affect several regions of the Russian Federation. However, Russian land legislation does not provide legal definitions for these concepts and does not establish effective legal measures to prevent desertification and restore degraded lands. Based on an analysis of federal and regional legislation, international legal acts, and documents, a number of proposals have been formulated to improve legal measures to combat land degradation and desertification.
