Developing Competition in the Platform Economy
Annotation
The paper analyzes provisions of the Federal Law On Certain Issues of Regulating the Platform Economy in the Russian Federation concerning contracts alteration, providing discounts and promoting goods on digital platforms. Referring to the judicial cases and administrative bodies practice, the author indicates that the new rules are aimed to protect counterparties from abuse by platforms. At the same time, it is concluded that the law is unbalanced: it assumes the monopolistic nature of all platforms, without taking into account their market differences, puts online intermediaries in an unequal position with offline trading and does not contain mechanisms to combat false reviews. In this regard, the author puts forward a number of proposals aiming to develop competition in the field of the platform economy.
