Annotation

The article addresses the problem of declining accessibility of ice hockey in contemporary Russia. The authors examine the key factors that have influenced the development of this sport following the socioeconomic changes of the late 20th century. Particular attention is paid to the rising cost of ice hockey equipment, reduction in the number of sports schools and regional teams, as well as shortage of qualified coaches in the provinces. The impact of economic and infrastructural conditions on the ability of children and teenagers to play ice hockey is analyzed separately.
