Subscription Traps: A Gap in Consumer Protection

Annotation

Currently, consumer access to goods or services is increasingly shifting to a digital environment. In addition to single transactions (for example, marketplace purchases), users can get access to a wide range of services with periodic payments via the subscription contracts. This article provides an analysis of unfair business practices involving «subscription traps», examines foreign legal approaches to the regulation of subscriptions, and discusses the emerging Russian legal framework. In conclusion, the author argues for addressing the identified legal gap through an enhancement of current regulations
