World Practices of Ranking Legal Educational Institutions and Law Faculties
Annotation
The purpose of the article is an analysis of world practices of ranking legal educational institutions and faculties and justification of the need for development of the unified quality assessment system for Russian legal education in the conditions of globalization and growth of competition on the labor market. The paper carries out a comparative analysis of international and national rating systems such as ARWU, QS, THE, as well as Russian and foreign methodologies of assessment of legal higher education institutions. The publication reviews ranking criteria applied in different countries, including academic reputation, scientific activity, demand for graduates, innovative approaches, and international recognition. The author shows methodological features and criteria of rating systems required to reflect objective information about education and research quality considering cultural and economic specifics of states. In order to increase competitiveness of Russian educational institutions, it is suggested to introduce a comprehensive assessment system that takes into account both quantitative and qualitative metrics. Scientific relevance of the paper lies in generalization of world rating experience and development of recommendations for improvement of national legal education quality assessment systems. Practical relevance is reflected in the opportunity to use the proposed criteria to improve the national lawyer training system and adapt of educational programs to the requirements of the modern labor market.
