Constitutional Jurisdiction in the Soviet Era: Political and Legal Factors
Annotation
The author analyzes the evolution of the institution of constitutional jurisdiction in the soviet period. The transformation from the revolutionary legal consciousness of the early soviet period to the formal oversight mechanisms enshrined in the Constitutions of 1918, 1924, 1936, and 1977, and to the attempts of the establishment of the system of independent constitutional oversight during the period of perestroika is in focus of this research. It is proved that the Soviet model of constitutional supervision was formal and politicized, being subordinate to party bodies. The research contributes in a comprehensive analysis of all stages of the development of Soviet constitutional jurisdiction as a unite historical and legal phenomenon.
