The publication provides a critical review of D.Yu. Stepanyuk's dissertation, which examines the public legal framework of referendums on the self-determination of the people in the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Regions. Special attention is paid to understanding the causes, guarantees, and legal consequences of self-determination referendums in the form of secession.
