The constitution includes elements of both a legal and non-legal nature. As the basic law, the constitution is the result of the painstaking work of its creators, so any provision of it is not accidental. At the same time, discussions are underway in the science of constitutional law regarding the contextual role of the preamble to the constitution. In this article, the author tries to consider the meaning of the preamble of the constitution in terms of its functional significance and provides a classification of the functions of the preamble. Special attention is paid to the interpretative, axiological and integrating functions of the preamble to the constitution. It is concluded that the preamble is an important structural element of the constitution, legitimizing the order established by it, forming the principles and values on which all subsequent provisions of the constitution are based. The functions of the preamble clearly show that its place in the constitution is not accidental, but its functionality organically develops and complements those functions that the constitution itself usually performs.
